ESPN’s Captain James Marko Hosts Valerie’s House Fishing Day
Valerie’s House was recently featured in a heartfelt story by Britt Leoni and Gulf Coast News highlighting a special fishing day for grieving children and teens hosted by Captain James Marko from ESPN’s Goliath Fishing.
The story, “Kids at Valerie’s House learn to ‘reel’ in joy,” followed Valerie’s House families during a mini inshore fishing tournament in Bokeelia, where kids had the chance to spend time outdoors, connect with one another, and experience moments of joy alongside peers who understand grief.
The fishing experience will also be featured on ESPN as part of Captain James Marko’s television series, Goliath Fishing, helping bring even more awareness to the importance of supporting grieving children and families.
For many children in Valerie’s House grief support programs, experiences like this offer more than just a fun day on the water. They create opportunities for connection, healing, and emotional relief while helping kids remember they are not alone in their grief journey.
Captain Marko volunteered his time and boats to make the day possible, giving families a chance to step away from daily stress and simply enjoy being present together.
Valerie’s House is grateful to Gulf Coast News, Britt Leoni, and Captain James Marko for helping shine a light on the importance of supporting grieving children and families throughout Southwest Florida.
