Celebrating Four Years of Mentorship: Devon’s Journey with Val’s PALS
At Valerie’s House, we believe no child should grieve alone. Our Val’s PALS Mentorship Program connects grieving kids with caring, dedicated adults who offer friendship, support, and guidance during their grief journey. One such incredible mentor is Devon, who has been making a meaningful difference in the lives of grieving children in Southwest Florida for four years.
Devon joined the Val’s PALS program in 2021, inspired by his own experience of losing a parent as a child. Understanding firsthand the impact of grief, he felt called to support children navigating similar journeys.
His mentorship began with his first mentee, Aiden, with whom he built a strong bond over 18 months. After their match ended, Devon expressed interest in mentoring again and was matched with another child—coincidentally also named Aiden. Now, Devon mentors both boys, often spending time with them individually and together.
From hockey games to nature walks, movies to ice cream outings, Devon has shown unwavering commitment to fostering a sense of connection and healing. His dedication, compassion, and ability to create lasting bonds make him one of Valerie’s House’s longest-serving and most impactful mentors.
The Val’s PALS Mentorship Program plays a crucial role in supporting grieving kids in Southwest Florida. By pairing children with role models like Devon, the program creates safe spaces for children to heal, grow, and thrive.
