Valerie’s House Family Featured by Gulf Coast News for Keeping Son’s Dream Alive
When Gulf Coast News shared the story of Turn N Burn Food Truck, they highlighted more than a family business. They shared the story of a Valerie’s House family choosing to honor the life of a son whose dream continues to inspire those who loved him.
After losing her son, Preston, unexpectedly last year, Shai Dillard has continued navigating grief with the support of Valerie’s House alongside her great-niece, Serenity. Together, they’ve found connection with other children and caregivers who understand the impact of losing someone they love.
Before his death, Preston dreamed of opening his own food truck. He loved cooking, experimenting with new recipes and bringing people together through food.
Although Preston isn’t here to see it, his family made sure his dream didn’t end with him.
Today, Turn N Burn Food Truck serves the Southwest Florida community while honoring Preston’s memory with every meal.
As Shai shared with Gulf Coast News:
“Every day is so different. Some days I don’t want to leave the house, and then some days, I’m everywhere. You just have to do it. He wouldn’t want me to stop, so I’ve got to keep it going.”
Her story is a powerful reminder that while grief changes us forever, love continues to move us forward.
We’re grateful to Gulf Coast News and reporter Britt Leoni for sharing Preston’s story and helping shine a light on the resilience of families navigating grief.
