Q&A with Valerie's House "Middle" Grieving His Father

Aiden's dad, Zach, died two years ago. Aiden has been coming to Valerie's House with his mother, brothers, and sister since a few months after Zach lost his life in a car crash. We spoke with Aiden about what Father's Day is like two years after losing his dad.

How old were you when your dad died?

Nine years old

How old are you now?

12, turning 13 in August.

What do you and your family do for Father's Day since your dad passed away?

We talk about it. I guess we usually sit around together because we all miss him.

What are some of your favorite memories with your dad?

I miss making pancakes with him. That was always really fun. And I miss playing Legos.

What would you want other people to know about you grieving the loss of your dad?

It's not something you can fix. It takes however long it takes to start hurting less. It doesn't go away, but it will start to take less focus.
