Volunteer Spotlight: Avi Dile

Avi Dile is a recent Florida Gulf Coast University psychology graduate with a heart for grieving children.

His journey with Valerie’s House began seven months ago when he first stepped foot into the Fort Myers location.

Since then, Avi has been a versatile volunteer, working with children in all age groups and helping them feel less alone.

“The moment you go into Valerie’s House, you can feel the love, warmth, and sincerity that everyone has for each other and the children,” Avi said. “Each group is a safe space where the children feel open to sharing about how they feel and what they have been through.”

Avi has had many special people die in his life, which fuels his passion for Valerie’s House. He lost several close friends from high school, along with his uncle in 2022.

Avi said his favorite part of volunteering is working directly with the children and helping amplify their voices so they feel heard.

“Volunteering has taught me so many things,” Avi said. “It’s mainly taught me that it’s okay to feel, and I don’t have to keep it all in.”

Avi also has some advice for those looking to volunteer with Valerie’s House.

“I would tell potential volunteers that it’s an amazing experience,” Avi said. “It can be heavy at times, but overall, the experience is truly something special.”
